Shelter 3 of Warner Park, Nashville was the setting for the Annual NF Tennessee Picnic that took place on May 17 to coincide with World NF Awareness Day. About 70 people, including a lot of kids, attended the big barbeque. It was a bright sunny day with a perfect 80 degrees, just like Skyler predicted it would be. Everyone brought their best smiles and best stories to pass around to lots of old and new friends alike. Travelers from as far as Memphis and Huntsville helped to make it special.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the inaugural NF Tennessee Impact Award to two individuals who have had a long-term impact on the NF community in Tennessee.  Mr. Jordan Britton from Nashville was recognized for his participation, advocacy, fundraising, and community spirit for longer than anyone but his parents can recall. Dr. Eniko Pivnick was recognized for over 30 years of dedicated care for individuals and families with NF in the Memphis area. By great good fortune Dr.  Pivnick pulled in just in time to be greeted by a joyful rendition of “She’ll be Comin’ Round the Mountain” sung by the whole “NF Tn Choir”!

Another special part of the celebration was conclusion of the annual Laptop and Individual Grants Program. Four individuals with top applications describing their long-term plans and goals were awarded three new laptop computers and one new saxophone. That program has given out 25 laptops over the last 5 years. The truly impressive accomplishments of so many of those individuals continues to be heartwarming, as reported in the latest edition of the NF Tennessee newsletter. And barbeque wasn’t the only food treat. Mrs. Kelly Goodman took home the first-place prize in the annual Homemade Desert Contest with her wonderful tasting smore’s, … a whole big platter of them. She shared her baking secret … “they’re done when the smoke detector goes off!” There were also some great artists at the craft table, fun sidewalk art, bubbles aplenty, and keen competition in the hopscotch, darts, and corn hole games. As always, the biggest treat was the people their sharing experiences with NF and in life, and the camaraderie and friendship that comes with that. We are already looking forward to May 2026!
