As we approach the end of the year, we want to spotlight the extraordinary Manth family, who have passionately advocated for individuals affected by neurofibromatosis (NF) for many years. Their daughter, Leah, was diagnosed with NF2-related schwannomatosis at just 7 years old. Despite enduring 13 major surgeries and facing ongoing challenges such as balance and mobility issues, facial paralysis, and hearing loss in one ear, Leah has risen above adversity and excelled academically. She graduated near the top of her high school class and has earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work.
Six years ago, Leah welcomed Dasher, her service dog, who supports her with hearing and balance. As Leah undergoes chemotherapy, Dasher offers essential comfort and companionship during her treatments. Since the age of 8, Leah has been a beacon of inspiration in the NF Network, participating in annual advocacy trips to Washington, D.C., and mentoring new advocates. The NF Network Advocacy Program is dedicated to securing vital federal funding for crucial NF research and has successfully raised over $400 million to date, highlighting the profound impact of our community.
Recently, Leah received a cross-hearing aid through a grant from B The Difference, significantly enhancing her ability to communicate. "This new device could truly benefit others in Leah’s situation, and we are thankful that the NF Network connected us with B The Difference," stated Leah's family.
We invite you to join us in making a significant impact. Your donation can change lives and propel essential research forward for countless individuals facing NF. When you support our cause, you ensure that we are ready to assist the next NF family that receives an NF diagnosis in 2025. We ask for your generous consideration in making a tax-deductible donation. Every contribution, regardless of size, plays a pivotal role in strengthening our efforts to support the NF community.
Together, we can advocate for hope and work toward a brighter tomorrow!
