Supporting Growth, Creativity, and Independence
Every individual deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and build a future filled with possibilities. For many in the NF community, pursuing higher education or developing independent life skills can come with added challenges—but with the right support, those goals are absolutely within reach.
That’s why expanding access to educational and skill-building opportunities is so important. Research shows that approximately 41% of adults with NF1 have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher, while another 12% have earned an associate’s degree. At the same time, many individuals with NF face barriers that can make the transition to independent adult life more difficult. These realities highlight the importance of programs that encourage, support, and empower individuals to take the next step forward.
In response to this need, NF Tennessee continues to grow its Grant Programs, with the 2026 application period opening on March 10 and running through May 10. These programs are designed to help individuals in the NF community pursue their passions, achieve personal goals, and unlock new opportunities.
What began in 2020 as the Laptop Giveaway Program has grown into a broader initiative that now includes Art Supplies and Musical Instruments Grants, added in 2023. Together, these programs have supported more than 30 recipients, each with their own story of perseverance and success. From personal achievements to creative milestones, the impact has been inspiring.

New in 2026: Higher Education & Life Skills Grant Program
Building on this momentum, NF Tennessee is proud to introduce the Higher Education and Life Skills Grant Programin 2026—an initiative focused on helping individuals take meaningful steps toward independence and lifelong success.
This grant is available to graduating seniors, recent high school graduates, and individuals age 18 and older who have been accepted into or are enrolled in a program centered on education or life skills development. Each award provides up to $1,000 to help cover expenses such as books, supplies, travel, or other training-related costs, based on the unique needs of each recipient.

In addition to these programs, NF Tennessee may also consider individual grants for unique goals or activities outside of art and music on a case-by-case basis. Those interested are encouraged to reach out at contact@nftennessee.org.
All applications are also available on the NF Tennessee website at nftennessee.org, where they can be submitted electronically or printed and mailed.
Through these expanding programs, NF Tennessee remains committed to opening doors, encouraging growth, and empowering individuals in the NF community to pursue their dreams with confidence.
