NF Awareness Month—Together, Louder Than Ever

May is here, and with it comes an incredible opportunity to bring attention to the neurofibromatosis (NF) community—its strength, its stories, and the powerful momentum behind awareness and advocacy efforts happening across the country from other NF organizations and us.
Last month, we had the privilege of sharing the story of podcaster Joey Bean. At 38, Joey has spent his life navigating the realities of Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Growing up in Southern California, he faced not only the physical challenges of tumors—some visible, many not—but also the social hurdles that often come with them. Like so many in the NF community, Joey developed resilience early on, learning how to handle curious questions and lingering stares while continuing to move forward.
After we featured his story, Joey reached out with an incredibly generous offer: to lend his voice—literally—to help amplify NF Awareness Month. He volunteered to record a voiceover for a special video highlighting the many events taking place throughout May. We were thrilled to say yes.
The result is a powerful, heartfelt video that captures the spirit of NF Awareness Month—community, hope, and action.

This month is about more than awareness—it’s about connection, visibility, and moving forward together. However you choose to participate, know that you’re part of something meaningful.
Let’s keep the momentum going.
