Four researchers at the UAB School of Medicine will put a deep focus on a genetic disorder over the next three years.

The Gilbert Family Foundation will allocate $5.4 million over the next three years to UAB researchers exploring developmental and possibly curative therapies to address the underlying genetic abnormalities of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a multisystem genetic disorder.

The incoming funding is part of the Gilbert Family Foundation’s Gene Therapy Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to accelerate the development of curative therapies that can address the genetic abnormalities in NF1 patients.
