The NF Surgery Conference is a half-day educational seminar for patients with neurofibromatosis (NF) and for the medical professionals who treat them. Surgery is still the mainstay of treatment for most patients who require intervention. Although this is true of both Type 1 and Type 2 NF, the majority of the discussions will apply to NF1 patients. The conference will be primarily focused on the surgical treatments available. Details of current options will be discussed along with preoperative and postoperative considerations, candidacy for surgery, risks, and anticipated results.
The conference will also provide an overview of neurofibromatosis by Dr. Tena Rosser from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Neurofibromatosis Clinic, current cutting-edge research at UCLA by Dr. Alice Soragni, and an expert lecture by the world-renowned Dr. Vincent Riccardi who has dedicated his career to the study and betterment of neurofibromatosis patients the world over. The NF Surgery Conference is a unique opportunity to educate patients and medical professionals on the available treatments and timing required for optimal results. There will also be a Question & Answer Patient Forum after the lectures for current and former patients to discuss their experiences openly with other members of the community. Dr. Andre Panossian is board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a background in neurofibromatosis, peripheral nerve surgery, facial paralysis, and pediatric plastic surgery. He has been featured on Good Morning America, The Doctors, The Los Angeles Times and KTLA 5 News Los Angeles. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Mending Kids and the Gondobay Manga Foundation.
Children are welcome to join us. There will be a special “kids’ camp” set up to keep them happy and busy while parents participate in the conference. More details about the Kids’ Camp will be included in your registration packet if you would like to enroll your child. (Licensed childcare agency)
